VICIOUS is a Copenhagen based audio production company and record label. Specializing in mastering, mixing and post production services, as well as hosting and promoting some of the most prominent Danish experimental bands within the genres, Ambient, Soundscapes, Sound-art, Electro-Acoustic, prog/art-Rock, Industrial, Avant-Garde, Music Concréte.
The label was founded in 2004 by members of MY BELOVED — Danny Søndergaard, Iver Ask Overgaard, and Lars Kivig — emerging from the Scandinavian DIY scene as a direct vehicle for releasing their own music. What began as a self-sufficient outlet quickly developed into a broader artistic framework for independent sound and collaboration.
In its early years, Vicious was managed by Kit Løvendahl, alongside her booking activities, helping shape the label’s initial direction and network. She later went on to establish FONO-GRAM Agency.
From 2010, under the direction of Lars Kivig, Vicious expanded into a wider Copenhagen-based ecosystem of artists and projects, moving beyond its original core. This period included releases and collaborations with projects such as Acorn Falling, featuring contributions from musicians including Thomas Wydler of The Bad Seeds, as well as releases by Jakob Myrhøj and Tomas Ortved. In 2018, the final works of Alive With Worms were released, closing a long-running artistic chapter.
Around the same time, Vicious began a decisive shift in focus toward electronic and experimental sound practices, opening its catalogue to more abstract and process-based music. Projects such as BLACK WATER WHITE SEA, Kivig_Gniben, and SKAMBIDT marked this transition, expanding the label’s identity into ambient, electro-acoustic, industrial, and avant-garde territories.
In 2020, Vicious was formally transferred to Lars Kivig as sole owner, marking the beginning of its current form as Vicious Studio & Records. This transition consolidated the label into a unified platform combining production, mastering, and release infrastructure, alongside the development of Vicious.dk, Vicious Studios, and Vicious Mastering.
Today, Vicious operates as an independent artistic platform and audio production hub based in Copenhagen, dedicated to handpicked Danish and Denmark-based artists whose work aligns with the label’s core aesthetic DNA. Rather than functioning as a conventional record label, Vicious exists as a curated environment for long-term artistic collaboration, development, and production.
Its catalogue spans ambient, sound art, electro-acoustic composition, musique concrète, industrial, experimental, progressive and art rock, and related forms of contemporary sonic practice.
Alongside its core roster, Vicious also curates open calls and develops projects in highly specific fields such as field recordings, Eurorack modular synthesis, and other exploratory sound-based practices.
At its core, Vicious remains focused on sound as process, practice, and space — an ongoing exploration of music as material and environment rather than genre or format.
